Stop reading this right now...

... and go to your favourite record store and buy a copy of The Decemberists' new album, The Crane Wife.

Now listen to it a few times and tell me what you think.

A while back, i heard their previous album, Picaresque, and didn't like it. It wasn't really an active dislike, for any specific reason, but it just didn't really do anything for me or stand out in any way. Which is part of the reason why i'm so impressed with The Crane Wife. From the time i heard some of the new somgs on KEXP, i liked them. I finally bought this album a coule days ago, and i'm blown away each time i listen to it. Hopefully it's not one of those ones that i love at first, and then lose interest in after a little while, but i get the feeling it won't be.

In other music news involving me, i recently got my ticket for the Neko Case concert next Tuesday night at the Commodore. I'm really looking forward to it, i've managed to miss her every time she's played here in the past few years (being completely freaking broke for most of my adult life), but not this time. I think i've got a bit of a crush on her, but if my wife can have a crush on Jimmy Stewart for his acting, then i can have a crush on Neko Case for her singing.
One question though, for anyone familiar with the inner workings of Ticketmaster. How can you ask for a ticket that costs $23.50, and end up paying $32.05 for it? Will someone please explain to me how the $7.50 convenience charge works, when buying from Ticketmaster is no more convenient, since i don't have any other choice! Especially not a slightly-less-convenient choice that costs $7.50 less.

The other show i'm looking forward to is The Appleseed Cast on April 10. I've been wanting to see them for years.

Bands i wish i could look forward to seeing: Viva Voce, but they're opening for the Shins, which makes the show quite expensive (plus convenience charge!), and me not being much of a Shins fan, can't justify the cost. Thanks a lot, Zach Braff. Jerkwad.
Dragon Force - Same situation as above, only not with the Shins.
